Theme: Fall--I love Fall! I love the crisp air, the awesome colors, & Pumpkins! As I took a walk yesterday to prepare for school today my awareness of Fall's beauty was intensified. There were an abundance of colors to be found. I felt like I was on a treasure hunt & found the booty! I hope you can take some time to notice all the tiny treasures to be discovered during this Harvest Time of Year.
Choosing Time: Foam Blocks, Leaf/Apple Jack Necklaces, Construction Vehicles, Blocks, Leaf Rubbings
Lesson: Today we read Frederick by Leo Lionni. Frederick did not gather food with the rest of his family. Instead, he took time to remember the sun & the beautiful colors of Spring & Summer. We all have special gifts that we share to help in our families. We discussed how animals & people collect & store food during the Fall for Winter. I passed out a brown paper bag with something I had collected from Nature to each child. Each child had a turn to put his hand into the bag and feel the object. The child then described what he felt. Then the object was pulled out of the bag for all to see & feel. I enjoyed hearing some extremely brilliant descriptive words!
Snack: Thank you to Daniel for a super yummy snack! We enjoyed apple slices, raisins, & cheddar cheese!
Science: During Snack Time the children observed how big our Pink Lady Seeds are sprouting. They have roots & leaves. The Red Delicious is sprouting too, but not as well as the Pink Lady Seeds. We will try to pot them and watch to see if we/I can keep them alive:)
Art: We were inspired by the Leaf Man and created our own Leaf Creations using a variety of Leaves, Seeds, Berries, & Nuts I had collected. I am so impressed with their creativity and artistic expression!
Music & Movement: We learned a new song...and a few actions to go with it....see if they can sing & dance it for you at home.
Pumpkin, pumpkin
Round & fat

Just like that!
